Renaissance cuisine as served to Popes and Emperors
Born in Lombardy, Italy, somewhere around the year 1500, Bartolomeo Scappi was one of the most renowned chefs of the Renaissance. At the age of 30, he entered into the service of Pope Paul III, concocting culinary delights for both him and the next three Popes. In 1536, he had the honor of preparing a 13-course meal for Emperor Charles V.
